Who has not played with mud in their childhood?

It is more likely that some of our happiest memories in childhood are when we played with mud and it is not for less since the benefits of interacting with mud for the little ones have been demonstrated.

Children are more creative and healthy. Some studies claim that playing with mud benefits children physically and mentally.

It’s healthy for their whole body (muscles, bones, lungs, heart, etc.) and keeps kids active. Playing develops senses, strength capacity, muscle control, balance and self-awareness.

It’s healthy for their whole body (muscles, bones, lungs, heart, etc.) and keeps kids active. Playing develops senses, strength capacity, muscle control, balance and self-awareness. Many parents worry about hygiene and safety, but the reality is that this limits them a bit from exploring.

Many times we can see the children playing outside. If the day before it rained surely there will be a child who jumps in a puddle with water and mud.

There are many children who have an inclination to play with dust and mud. If you don’t have a garden or a patio where they can have fun, there is no need to worry anymore, because even in the smallest space you can find a place. For this you can free an area of the house and then place a tarp.

Playing with mud strengthens the immune system. The immune system is responsible for protecting people from external agents such as germs and bacteria that threaten health. Contact with nature is necessary.

Lets help children to have more physical activity to combat obesity. Lack of physical activity stimulates obesity, a problem that affects a large part of the child population.

SPOTLIGHT: Overcoming Reflection

My name is José M. Hernandez, in September 1999, I emigrated to the united states to the city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

I started working in different magazines and plastic factories. In September of 2003, I married María Ester Aguilera and we have 3 boys of 18,16, and 13 years old.

In January 2012, my wife’s dream of having our own business related to child care came true, which she named as “Green Planet Day care”. After so many years of effort from my wife.

So I started taking the first classes for early age care so we could work together and for this I needed to take certain basic classes that included: CPR, abuse and neglect, shaken baby syndrome, crib death.

I also took credentials for infants and toddlers and administration at MATC. Finally, in 2021 I graduated with an associate degree in early childhood education at MATC. I think that the more I prepare myself academically, the better the quality of child care will be.

What inspired me to study the associate in early education was to see my wife who has a gift for teaching the children in her care and how grateful the parents are with her.

Then I got involved little by little in the day care and began to prepare myself to be more professional in this field. My children were my other reason to finish my studies and be an example despite my age, it is never too late to learn and of course “yes you can” despite the obstacles, always stay focused on what you want and you will succeed, even if you have not yet mastered the language.

I thank god and this country that have given me so much and I thank each of the people who were by my side, especially my wife and my children.

Diversity

This activity is about diversity for 5 year old children.

Exploring skin colors

We will present the diversity book to the children, we let them express themselves as they wish, in order to intervene and correct what they cant understand.

Materials for this activity

  • Diversity book
  • Paper
  • Skin color paint
  • 2 or 3 crayon packets
  • Multicultural markers
  • Crayons
  • Pencil

Vocabulary

Encourage children to use descriptive color names like mahogany, peach, and gold; words that describe actions such as describe, mix, and paint; and words about scientific processes like matching.

Key science concepts

There’s many different colors.

The same color can have different shades, from very light to very dark.

Instructions

Tell children that they are going to trace the outline of their hands and color it by matching the color of their skin.

Ask children to look at their skin. How would you describe your skin color? If they answer with white or black, encourage them to take a closer look and identify some of the colors that when combined makes up the color of their skin. For example, do they see something brown, red, yellow, orange and/or beige on their skin?

Examine the crayons and/or paint together. read and discuss the names on each tag.

Ask:

  • Which crayons are more likely like a peach?
  • Which brown looks like the one from a teddy bear?

Invite children to choose a crayon or paint that matches their skin color. If they feel like the color doesn’t match that well, encourage them to mix it with other colors.

When children have the shades of the color they are happy with, have them trace the outline of their hands on sheets of paper and then color or ink them. Encourage children to make up a name for their skin color. Food often works as inspiration, for example, chocolate cake, gold honey. Help children write the name of the colors on their work
